The Moroccan Association of Producers and Exporters of Various Goods to Africa and Beyond announced a halt in exports to Sub-Saharan African countries starting Monday, April 20, 2026. The association emphasized that this decision, which will remain in effect indefinitely, is aimed at defending the legitimate professional rights and interests of its members until a serious and responsible dialogue with the relevant authorities takes place and their demands are met. The association attributed the decision to ongoing challenges that hinder export activities and the failure to address the legitimate concerns of professionals. This move follows the exhaustion of all possible solutions and the significant financial losses faced by producers and exporters. Mohamed Zemrani, president of the association, explained that the decision was prompted by an oral unilateral order from the independent institution for the monitoring and coordination of exports, “Morocco FoodEx,” affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture. Zemrani also noted that six trucks carrying fruits and vegetables have been stranded at the Karkarat border crossing since the export halt was announced, despite being prepared and shipped prior to the decision, causing severe losses for the producers and exporters. He pointed out that the authorities in Agadir have refused to issue the necessary documents to allow the trucks to proceed to their African destinations, and that the decision was made without consulting the professionals or providing them with a transition period.
